My dear Brother,

How very sad, Brother and Sister, about you daughter Sarah.  Had I known about her condition sooner, I would have shared my own experiences with this horrendous malady.

I was diagnosed by my Internist at our winter home in Naples , Florida at the time, and confirmed by MRI, so MS and I are well acquainted.  I was diagnosed in 1962, and have so far survived many setbacks and rallies.  As I'm sure you know, there is a psychological component to MS, and antidepressants have helped me cope at times.  I am currently in remission and have been for quite a while now.  My internist tells me that, generally, MS  seems to affect women worst than men.  I feel quite well at present and in not too many months I shall turn 90!  So God and really good physicians have allowed me to live a positive and rewarding life.

Keep up your spirits and know that God and your many friends are sending you and  Sarah love and encouragement.

With love and prayers,

Matthias

Please pray for our daughter Sarah Machemer. She suffered a relapse of her MS last week, the second one in 7 months, with muscle weakness on her right side (hand, arm, & leg). She has begun a regimen of medication changes and a battery of tests is scheduled this week and then physical therapy.

Sr. Mary Francis, please add her to next week's prayer list.

Thanks,
Br. David
