update Sister Brigid by Br. David, OSB (12 Mar 2020 08:37 CDT)
Reply to list

Sister finished the IV antibiotic therapy for the wound/bone infection and was discharged to home late yesterday. She feels good that she’s home but weak.  She is being seen by VNA as I write this. I’ll be working with her to build up her strength. She has a number of doctor visits coming up

We will begin to work through her next challenge – her cardiac status with a visit to a cardiology specialist at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston on March 27.

Thank you al for your continuing prayers and I’ll keep you up to date as we continue through these things.

PAX,

Abbot David

Washing Hands by Mary Clarke (12 Mar 2020 09:56 CDT)

Abbot, Sisters & Brothers,

I have shared a post on my Facebook page and wanted to share it's message here also. During this time we are being asked to wash our hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds. I saw a post on my Facebook news feed to sing the doxology while washing your hands. I found that it takes me about 20-30 seconds to sing it and it's a wonderful way to bring God into an otherwise anxious time. Hoping this is helpful.🙏

Blessings,

Sr. Mary Magdalene

I saw that too and thought while it did have a touch of humor it was indeed a way to keep prayer at the forefront of these tough times.

I have been reciting the Lord’s Prayer in basic chant. Takes about the same amount of time! I love these ideas.

I am sorry to announce that three people have left CSL because they have left the Episcopal Church and either joined the Orthodox church or the Roman Catholic church:

Sr. Veronica Taylor

Br. Raphael Owens

Sr. Teresa Faller

Like you, I’m saddened by their departure.  But we all understand that following Christ can lead us towards unexpected outcomes.  Please pray for them as they continue their journey in their new faith communities.

Blessings,

Abbot David

Hi Sr. Martha!

It's so good that you're ahead of all this!

We've got 9 cases as of today, and likely will be streaming services, from church, or something like it,

for the near future. (Finally.) I expect we will be seeing many more cases. I've been really

frustrated in the last week, as I am a public health nurse, went through the HIV decades, and the

church has been slow to get with the program, in spite of my contacting them with concerns.

FYI, my prayer life has been unusually rich, out of the blue, and I'm reading alot,

so I'm happy alot. I like that very much! It's a good time to have a rich prayer life,

isn't it?

I am thinking of you and hoping that your world is chugging along as best it can,

with all of this virus concern.

love!

Margie

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

I am sure many of you are concerned about the Corona Virus that has invaded parts of the US and the world, and may be wondering about how this will affect May Convocation.

At this time, the CDC and National Institutes of Health have placed Missouri and Kansas in a low-risk category. For this reason, Abbot David, the other Deans and I have decided to proceed as usual with Convocation plans. We are closely monitoring CDC communication and will make appropriate decisions should the need arise. We also understand that as we approach May, the decision about whether or not to travel will be entirely personal based on conditions in your individual areas.

I will be sending Convocation registration and other information in about 7-10 days, but wanted to inform you about scheduling and hotel information as soon as it had been determined.

For those flying who will need the bus, it will depart the hotel at 1:00 PM. For those driving, our first gathering will be at 3:00 PM.

If you wish to come in early, a group rate has been arranged with the Marriott Courtyard KCI Airport. The rate is $99+tax per night single (1 king) and 109+tax per night double (2 queens). Reservations can be made until May 4 at the link below. If you reserve a room and your plans change later, you may cancel without penalty up to 3 days before arrival.

The room rate is available May 23-24 (Saturday and Sunday). If you need additional nights, please contact the hotel reservations line at  800.321.2211 and mention the Companions of St. Luke.

Companions of St. Luke Room Block

Companions of St. Luke Room Block

Book by 05/05/2020 99-109 USD/night

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing as many as possible in just a few short weeks.

PAX,

Sr. Martha
