Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It is time for members to take the online safe church training program offered by Praesidium for the Episcopal Church. There are now three units that must be completed online. All other members in vowed life, vowed life formation (all levels), or are oblates or novice oblates must complete the online program to be certified or re-certified by May 10, 2020. The only exceptions are our current first year novices who took the courses in the spring, 2019. Sr. Kate will advise you of the URL for Praesidium and how to sigh in to the program. There is no cost to you to take the course.
Addition, this year there will be a fourth unit that is in a classroom format and will be offered during the May convocation. All members must take this unit. For those who cannot attend convocation, the unit will be offered as a Zoom class. The details of this classroom unit will be announced at a later date.
I need to remind you that you have to take the program we offer, even though you may have taken the same course at your church. The reason for this is we are required by TEC’s committee on Religious Orders and Communities that members take this training and we have certification of completion for each member. Secondly, there is no way that the administrators of safe church training in a church community or diocese can share or transfer certification of completion between themselves and a religious community. We realize that some of you will have to take the program twice, but unfortunately, this can’t be helped.
If you have questions, contact Sr. Kate or myself.
PAX,
Abbot David

Sr. Brigid - update by Br. David, OSB (26 Jan 2020 15:50 CST)

About two weeks ago, Sr. Brigid developed a cellulitis in her lower left leg. This is the same leg where she broke her ankle four years ago. She was admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotic therapy and pain management. About five days into this admission her left foot began to swell with acute pain. Her orthopedist examined this and tapped the foot removing about 10 cc of fluid. This was infected. She had surgery to clean the infection site and remove the hardware that was inserted when they repaired her ankle. The hardware was badly infected. The surgical site was left open for 48 hours so continued cleaning could be done. It’s now closed and healing well. However, since the hardware was infected there is a risk of bone infection. So, she is on a six week program of IV antibiotic therapy (different meds) at a rehab center. She is getting physical therapy as well.
She is doing better, and is getting around her room with a walker. I try and visit daily. Please raise up prayers of thanksgiving for the medical care she’s received and pray for her continued healing.
Thanks and God Bless you all,
Abbot David
